Can I be honest with you? Kindergarten can be an overwhelming grade. There I said it. While it seems like everything should be as easy as ABC 123, that is not always the case. There are SO MANY brand new concepts early learners are exposed to, along with the new dynamic of school itself. Whew.. As I said it can be a lot.
So what exactly should be covered in kindergarten? Don’t worry, let me help you simplify the chaos and take this brand new grade, one step at a time. While it seems like a lot, let’s break it down together.
Kindergarten Skills
In a nutshell, there are several important skills that kindergartners need to know. These include letter recognition, beginning sounds, number recognition, shapes, counting, reading readiness, fine and gross motor skills, and even social skills.
I know this can feel like a lot to take it in, but just remember that it’s one skill at a time. The best part is that each skill is like a piece of a building block, and when the year is over all the pieces should fit together!
It’s truly the best feeling to watch your kiddo learn and grow during the school year. So take a breath and have fun on this new learning journey.
