How to teach health education in your homeschool

Created On: December 8, 2017  |  Updated: August 21, 2023  |

Physical Education For Homeschoolers

Teaching health education in you homeschool doesn’t have to be hard drawn out process. I get lots of people asking me how are you suppose to teach this in your homeschool?

PE Ideas For Homeschoolers: Check out these quick and fun ways to get PE scheduled into your homeschool routine!

Incorporate PE into your homeschool days.

The problem is that resources can be hard to come by, but they are out there. You have a few options to look at. You can simply start right at your dinner table. Talk about the food and how it nourishes your body. When you are outside playing discuss the benefits of exercise. Pick up a new sport to try out together. Maybe find a basket ball goal or soccer goal. Teach them the rules of the game and teach them good sportsman ship.

Don’t forget hygiene!

Go over why it is important for them to keep good hygiene. During a bath explain how the bubbles of the soap help to wash away dirt and germs. When it is time for them to brush their teeth simply go over why it is important to keep our teeth clean.

Fire Safety Counts!

I always like to add fire safety to this as well. This is commonly overlooked, but VERY important! Teach your child exactly what to do in case of a fire. This is what I tell my 5 year old son “When there is a fire the alarm is going to sound. It will be very loud and it will hurt your ears. It will be hard to think so you need to automatically know what to do. If you hear the alarm you open your window like so and kick out the screen. You then go to the tree over there and wait for me and Daddy or you wait for a fireman. You NEVER go back into the house, okay?” Go over a second exit as well and explain what to do if there is smoke (crawl) and how to feel doors for heat. Do a fire drill once a month even when it is freezing and inconvenient. This helps set their response to auto pilot and equips them with the confidence to get out safely.

Here are a few of my favorite resources for you to check out.
