We live in a tough world. As a parent, it can be scary sometimes to know what we have to send our children out to face every day. You can create a safe haven for your child at home, so she never has to face the stresses of the outside world when at home. You can then raise your child with confidence that she can take with her when she leaves the comfort and safety of home and this will help her deal with the many stressors she will face in her life. There are things you can do as a parent to help raise a happy, confident child.

We don’t often realize that our words are very powerful, especially to our children. Every little thing you say, or don’t say, can have a big impact on them as they grow. When you keep this in mind, you can begin acting as a coach for your child, rather than controlling. You don’t always have to point out your child’s flaws. You should be the one boosting him up. This doesn’t mean he can do no wrong and get away with anything but it does mean that your job as a parent is to guide with love and support, rather than tearing him down.
Here are some ways to raise a happy, confident child:
Take time to make your child a priority – You may say your child is the top priority in your life. You may even mean it. But if you’re not taking the time to show this to your child, they may not be getting the message. Take the time to show your child she is important to you and always follow through with your promises.
Help your child learn – Children do learn from their mistakes and sometimes it’s okay to let them try and fail but you should be there to help your child in the process. Allow him to do new things, be there to offer support or advice in hard times, and allow your child to explore new things. This is how children grow and that growth gives them confidence.
Allow your child independence – You should also give your child freedom to try things for herself. Allow her to gain independence whenever possible. Let her try new things. Let her do chores around the house. Allow your child to tackle manageable challenges and be there to help her succeed.
Show your child you trust him – It’s important that you take time to show (not just tell) your child you trust him. Allow him to take on new responsibilities. Don’t question whether he’s telling the truth. Let him try to do things for himself from the earliest age.
These are just a few ways to raise a happy, confident child. Babies don’t come with handbooks and we learn so many things as we go. It’s a journey that doesn’t stop once they are 18 either. But with these tips, you can empower your child and give him or her strength to face the world and be the best that they can be. If that’s not great parenting, what is?
