Do you have a child who is addicted to Minecraft?
You’re not alone! As of October 2018, over 91 million people across the world play Minecraft on a monthly basis. A good chunk of those players are kids who love being able to build and play in their own digital worlds.
With kids being so into Minecraft, many parents were looking for a way to make it educational. If you count yourself among those parents, keep reading because I’m going to share a few educational resources for Minecraft Lovers that you should know about.
SKrafty
SKrafty is a heavily-moderated Minecraft server that offers (among many other features), a full curriculum of courses for K-12 students, including over 150+ self-paced courses, and a variety of teacher-led courses. Classes are presented in weekly lessons and progress is determined by automatically graded quizzes. Each lesson also incorporates a Minecraft Adventure Build that offers them a way to build on their learning experience. For example, if students are exploring Narnia, they can take on the role of a character from the book and are able to build their own Narnian creations in the server.
GameED Academy
Another great resource is GameED Academy, where students can sign up for a variety of Minecraft-focused courses. They give you the option of joining in one one of their 7-week sessions (the first week of which is geared towards learning the game), signing up for individual courses, or buying a monthly subscription membership. Courses are broken down by age and cover topics like Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Biblical Studies. They even have Enrichment classes like “Life Skills”. The one thing to note about GameED Academy is that it requires the desktop version of Minecraft, so it won’t work on mobile devices or tablets.
Udemy Minecraft Courses
You can also find a variety of Minecraft courses on Udemy that teach tech skills like modding, creating plugins, and more. And, with Udemy, if you’re not happy with a purchase, they do have a 30-day money-back guarantee that comes with every course.
