When you have a distracted child it can be difficult to get through your homeschooling lessons. Here are some tips that can help you get your kiddo through the day.
Sometimes kids just want to move! They don’t want to sit still and learn. Here are some things I came across to help calm your figiter so they can focus on the lesson at hand!
- Fidget Pencil Toppers
are a great way to keep your child entertained while doing lessons. These fun toppers come with with bolts and knobs that you can twist and turn around the pencil.
- Balance Cushions can be used on the chair to give your child the feeling of movement while sitting still. This helps alleviate the urge to move so they can regain focus.
- Stress Balls
are great to use for focus as well. This is great when being read to or also while the child is reading out loud.

Take breaks often!
Taking breaks every 20 minutes can help get your child back on task. We use an indoor trampoline to get the wiggles out when we take a quick break. I also use a timer to signal when the break is over. I love this visual timer for my kiddo. It gives a yellow warning light and sound when the break is halfway over.
Have fun!
Your kiddo might not be sitting still because they are not interested or they are simply bored. Be sure to try and make the lessons fun. I like to throw in some educational games in the middle of the day to break things up a bit. I like to play games like Swamp Sum, Logik Street, Brain Box, or Pajaggle.
I know that some days will just feel impossible to get through, but I hope these help to give you some motivation and inspiration for your own homeschool!
