How to find a tutor for your homeschooled child?

Created On: February 10, 2016  |  Updated: October 19, 2021  |

Homeschooling your kids is such a big decision to make. You feel pressured to be the best “teacher” to your child that you can possibly be. While we won’t all be knowledgeable in every subject, you really don’t have to be. You are very capable of homeschooling your children.

How to find a tutor for your homeschooled kids.

Sometimes it is still good to seek out advice of a professional tutor. A tutor will be able to assess your child’s needs. Tutors will also have the knowledge of different angles to approach the subject. Sometimes they will think of things that you haven’t even considered and the information just starts to “click” with your child.

The biggest obstacle that I find is that most homeschoolers do not know how to seek out a tutor for their children. I want to go over some easy ways to find the extra help that your child might need.

*Your homeschool group or co-op. If you are not already a part of one, then now would be a good time to start looking. Many homeschool groups offer “classes” for the children. Some will even have the teenagers tutor the younger children as well. This is a great cost effective way to get the help you need. Just be sure to find a good way to return the good deed back to the group.

*Local high school students. Sometimes local high school students are looking for a way to earn some extra cash. If you know of some high school children who are particularly good at a subject, then ask if they would consider helping your child for a small fee.

*Tutor companies. I really like this option and if it fits into your budget you might want to consider giving these a try. Some tutor centers are actual brick and mortar buildings where your child will get one on one attention. Other tutor companies will be able to work with your child online. Here are few companies to start looking into:

  • Sylvan
  • Kaplan Kids
  • Tutor Doctor
  • Kumon
  • Huntington Learning
  • K12

Getting a tutor for child can really  help them to achieve more in their academics especially if something is holding them back. Have you ever used a tutor for child? If so let us know how you found them and how it all worked out.
