Homeschooling doesn’t mean it is going to be a easy – you are taking up the responsibility of your child’s development and it needs dedication, attention, and patience. Here are some homeschooling tips for single parents to help you out:

No comparison

Never compare your home school with someone else’s – that is the wrong way to go about it. Each child has different ways of learning and imbibing knowledge and the home school should be specifically formulated along those parameters, instead of emulating stuff from others. There are several techniques you can use to impart education and each family can choose their own technique that is suitable for them. Suggestions are acceptable, and good recommendations that benefit your child can be incorporated, but don’t do something just because your neighbor is doing it!

Maintain simplicity

Being a single parent means you have to master the ability to multi-task by cooking, cleaning, shopping, teaching etc. At times it might feel overwhelming, which is why it is best to retain as much simplicity as possible. Structure an easy-to-follow routine that works well with your schedule and one that your children will have no problems in adjusting to. If extra-curricular activities are putting a strain on your pocket, then don’t do it! You can create fun exercises at home too – arts & crafts, music, gardening, and so on. Encourage your children to play outdoors instead of sitting in their room with video games. Focus on what is important for your children and eliminate the rest!

Ask for help when needed

It is good to have self-respect and complete tasks on your own, but don’t hesitate while asking for help from friends and family. A proper support system is necessary to maintain the balance between parenting, running a house, and home schooling your children. Take a break at times, as it allows you to come back with a fresh mind and stronger perspective.

A lot of time and effort is required for such endeavors, but in the end it is all worth it, when you see your kids growing up to be learned and confident individuals, ready to take on challenges and face the world.
