DIY Bird Feeder Craft

Created On: April 10, 2018  |  Updated: October 19, 2021  |

My son and I started paying more attention to our feathered friends outdoors this year. It becomes fascinating to try and determine what each bird is and what they sound like. I never thought of myself as a “bird watcher” before, but once to start to take notice you will begin to realize how fun it is to watch them!

I’ve also created this fun bird study unit here to along with your new bird watching activity!

Wouldn’t you love to start watching birds in your own back yard too? Now you can because I will show you how simple it is to attract song birds to your yard. Your kids are going to LOVE this! Let’s get started!

Instructions

Cut a small slit about 2 inches up from the bottom of the water bottle on sides opposite each other. Slide a twig through from one side to the other. This will be the perches.

Repeat this same step about 3 ” down from the top , except opposite of the first twig so that the finished perches
cross cross each other.

Cut a small hole about 2-3″ above the perch for the birds to access the seed.
Cut a hole in the middle of the bottle cover.

Once you know where you will hang the bird feeder, determine how much yarn you will need, cut to length.
Tie a large knot at one end, thread through the hole on the cap.
Fill the bottle with bird seed, cover and hang!

To refill, simply remove the cap and fill.

Well, that was fast! Looks like we have a little feathered friend already checking it out!
