3 Warning signs that you chose the wrong homeschool curriculum!

I remember the first homeschool curriculum I bought for my kiddo. It wasn’t cheap either and I really wanted it to work. It was the at home curriculum set from the K-12 program. It seemed all inclusive and very detailed oriented.

3 Warning signs that you chose the wrong curriculum

When the box came in the mail I remember being so excited that I just ripped open the box and dove right in! There was so much to go through! So many books! The book lover in me did back flips! Little did I know that kiddo wouldn’t be as enthusiastic about it as I was.

Have you ever thought you had the perfect homeschool curriculum only to realize later that it just isn’t working? Or maybe you are using a particular curriculum and for some reason things aren’t really going as planned? It happens! Here are the warning signs that you probably chose the wrong curriculum.

-The material just isn’t clicking with your child. Maybe the material is to advanced or to slow for your child. If you notice that your child isn’t grasping a subject very well, then chances are it’s not a right fit. The same goes for if your child seems extremely bored!

-Your child won’t sit through one single lesson! If your child is not paying any attention to you at all, then chances are you picked the wrong curriculum. Does your child fidget, try to get up and walk away,  or whine a lot about doing lessons? This usually occurs when the new curriculum doesn’t quite line up with your child’s learning style.

–You and your child can’t keep up with the pace. This happens a lot with online style homeschool programs. Most of them require “x” amount of work to be done each and every day. On top of that they require a strict check in time each and every morning. If you are finding it hard to keep up with the pace of things, then it’s time to switch things up!

Remember, if you have chosen the wrong homeschool curriculum for your child all is not lost! There are many things you can do to lesson the monetary loss. You can try to sell the curriculum online, request a refund for any unused portion of online programs, and purchase something different that has been gently used before.

Has any of this happened to you before? Let me know in comments how you handled it!
