I am one of those people who love to make lists and organize things. Staying organized in your homeschool will help you reach your homeschooling goals much quicker and more efficiently.
Have you ever set up academic goals for your homeschool and never have been able to reach them? Sometimes these goals will be set by your state. Each state is different on the requirements for homeschooling. If you have ever had to scramble last minute to meet these requirements or to reach your own goals then this post is for you!
Here are some quick and easy tips that will help you stay on track!
1. Have one planner just for your homeschool. If you are combining your family planner with your homeschool planner, then it’s likely that you are surrounded by chaos. It helps to keep these things separated. It’s overwhelming to open your planner every day and see so many things listed there. Keep it separated!
2. Keep goals clear, simple, and to the point. If your goal is “Learn to read this year”, then you are going to want to break that down into smaller tasks. You can break this down into smaller goals each month and adjust your goals as you go. Chances are things will go quicker when you are focused on completing the smaller tasks first! If you are following a specific book or curriculum take note of how it is meeting up with your goals. Adjust that accordingly as well. Sometimes you might need to supplement the curriculum to get the content learned in a set amount of time.
3. Work on main goals first each day! This tip really turned things around for us. My main goal last year for kiddo was “Learn to read”. My problem was some days we’d get so busy or distracted that the reading lesson was put off to the next day. Hey, it’s bound to happen with a rambunctious 4 year old! When I decided to do reading lessons first each day we finally started to see progress. So do those tasks first and leave the rest for last.
These tips might seem a bit simplistic to really make a big difference, but I urge you to give it a try! Doing these things will help you keep a laser focus on your goals and things will go by much more smoothly than you ever thought possible! No more scrambling around at the end of your homeschool year to get caught up on things!
